Historic European Athletics Championships Marathon Wins For Lisowska, Ringer

Sergio is the founder of Porto Running Tours, has been running since 1999 and a friendly running guide-storyteller since 2015. German marathoner Richard Ringer crossed the finish line and won a surprise gold at the European Championships in Munich on Monday afternoon. Holding off the Israeli Maru Teferi in the last 200 meters of the marathon to win in front of the home crowd.

BBC commentators Paula Radcliffe and Steve Cram even declared Tefer the 2022 European marathon champion in the 400m, but Ringer had other plans when he completed the sensational sprint. Watch his finish and hear the crowd roar in the Twitter video below.

For most of the closing stages, Israel's Teferi looked poised to leave the race in the bag, but it ended with Ringer's pace passing Teferi on the inside to win by two seconds in 2:10.21.

Nienke Earns Valiant European Marathon Bronze Medal

It was Tefer's third marathon of 2022 and second in the past month. He finished 11th at the Seville Marathon in February in 2:06:58 and 2:07:59 at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

"My strength as a 5,000 meter runner helped me finish strong and ignore the heat," Ringer told Athletics Weekly.

It was the second medal of Ringer's career at the European Championships. He won his first 5000 m medal in 2016 (in a mad dash to the finish line). I participated in the Seville Half Marathon (Medio Maratón de Sevilla) in January 2023. I plan to participate in the next edition. ? The Seville Half Marathon is traditionally held every year in January and attracts thousands of runners from Spain and abroad. This year we had nearly 12,500 runners!

I participated in the 2023 edition and I am talking about my experience. Please note that some things may change for future editions of this competition.

Seville is a very flat city and is known to be the flattest city in Europe for both a half marathon and a marathon.

However, the Malaga Half Marathon, held every November, has unveiled a new course for its latest edition (which I took part in, see my review here) and interestingly they claim that this new course is the flattest in Europe.

So what is the flattest? It's a little uncertain, both claim to be, but both races are very smooth and fast with very little difference in elevation.

When registering in November, I paid 37€, but if you register earlier, you can pay 22€.

It's often the case with Spanish competitions that the earlier you register, the cheaper the price, so if you're sure you'll be taking part in this competition, I recommend buying your entry as soon as possible.

The game starts at 9:00. You have 3 hours to complete the half marathon distance, with a break at 12:00.

Copenhagen Half Marathon

In 2023, Paseo de las Delicias will start and finish near Maria Luisa Park. A different route was set in each wave to avoid traffic jams.

You will need to pick up your game number and goody at the show at Centro Deportivo San Pablo on Friday or Saturday.

Bring your ID and make sure you have the access confirmation and assigned bib number on your phone. Once they have given you a bra, take your bag and t-shirt.

In 2023, the goodie included: a race shirt, 1 snack (a type of chorizo ​​stick), 1 monster jar, and some shampoo samples.

The Crazy, Record Breaking, 13 Country Great European Half Marathon

A few days before the race, race numbers and starting pens were sent to us via e-mail. Each or "cajones de salida". Then you can check on the website which way you need to come to reach the starting line.

Depending on which way you are coming from, there are different baggage drop off points for each starting block. All you have to do is attach the drop tag that matches your race number to the bag.

Water stations are 5 km, 10 km, 14.3 km and 17 km away. It's not a cup, it's a bottle of water. They offered isotonic drinks in cups at 14 km, but my cup was water, not a bottle.

You will receive a medal and a bag containing a bottle of water, a bottle of Powerade and a can of beer. You can also get a banana.

In short: smooth and fast! There are few turns and most of the route is on major roads. The course will take you over impressive bridges and you will also see some sights such as the cathedral.

Things get a little trickier in the last few kilometers as you leave cobbled streets with tram tracks for smooth tarmac. You might want to pay more attention to where your feet land on that uneven surface.

Absolutely! It is a very fast course and many runners come in with PBs. This is a great run if you want to set a new half marathon PB or use it for the Seville Marathon in a few weeks.
