Hidden Gems In Europe To Visit For A Unique Vacation
I asked this question to my favorite travel bloggers and local experts who know Europe well. Hidden gems in Europe are hard to find, but this list showcases many of them. Here are 21 of the best hidden gems in Europe to avoid the crowds in 2023.
Cetinil de las Bodegas is a small town with cliffs in southern Spain. That means people here live under a rock.
In addition to its beautiful rocky landscape, Cetinil de las Bodegas is also a beautiful landscape. Two places of interest include Nazari Castle and La Encarnacion Church. Each is incredibly unique, cementing the city's reputation as one of the cheapest places to visit in Europe.
The hilltop Nazari Fort has been an Arab fort since the 13th century. This medieval fortress was one of the last Moorish strongholds before the Christians conquered the Iberian Peninsula in the late 1400s. After the final siege all but one of the original towers of the fort were demolished. However, it's still worth a quick stop for a spectacular view of the beautiful city below.

La Encarnación Church is not the most elaborate church in Spain, but it is unique in its own way. It was built in the early 1500s incorporating Gothic architecture. La Encarnación Church is simple and peaceful, giving an impression of what life is like in small towns in Spain.
Located between Seville and Granada, Cetinil de las Bodegas is one of Spain's most unique places and one of Andalusia's best kept secrets. It's amazing how this city stayed under the radar for so long. Just 18 kilometers north of Ronda, Setenil de las Bodegas is a must-visit.
If you're planning a trip through Spain, make sure you stop by Cetinil de las Bodegas on your trip!
Located in the southern part of Portugal, the Algarve is one of the most unique places to visit in Europe. While the French, Italian and Spanish Rivieras steal most of the limelight, I think Portugal's slice of paradise in the Algarve can give those places a run for their money.
Secret Small Towns In Europe You Must Visit
The region straddles the Atlantic coast and offers rugged terrain and beaches you won't find anywhere else. Villages and whitewashed towns are scattered among the sand dunes and beaches, and you don't have to break the bank to stay there.
The Algarve is much cheaper and less famous than its Mediterranean counterparts. Because of this, this area is not very developed for tourism, so if you are looking for beach resorts, clubs and restaurants everywhere, it is better to visit the above places.
Check out the towering cliffs and mighty rocks that this area is known for. Walk through old fishing villages and endless beaches while soaking up the sun. No wonder it's one of the best places to visit in Europe!
The Algarve is 155 kilometers (250 km) south of Lisbon. Other towns and cities you can visit include Lagos, Faro, Tavira and Albufeira.

North of Kotor, one of Europe's most beautiful cities, lies the coastal village of Perast. It's cheap, it's great, and it doesn't look organized. Hence, it is one of the best hidden gems in Europe to visit in 2023.
Between the 15th and 18th centuries, Perast was a strategic port between the Ottoman Empire and the Venetian Republic. With 274 residents and only one main street, it's hard to imagine that this small town was once at the crossroads of this powerful government.
With a total of 16 churches, Perast probably has the most churches in the world. The most beautiful of them is the Church of St. Nicola, a 17th-century Baroque masterpiece. The city is surrounded by majestic mountains, overlooking the bay below. With so much beauty and charm, it's no wonder that Perast is one of the most underrated cities to visit in Europe.

A quick boat ride from Perast in Kotor Bay is the artificial island of Our Lady of the Rocks. Legend has it that sailors built the island 500 years ago by collecting piles of stones and old ships. A small chapel juts out of the water on this rock mound. Inside, you will find many beautiful paintings from the 17th century and paintings of the Virgin Mary dating back to the 1400s.
On the boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks, you'll find another small island with an interesting past, St. George. This natural island is famous for its 12th century monastery. Unfortunately, it is not open to tourists, but you can get around the island by boat for a few euros. It's so far off the beaten path that it deserves a mention among Europe's hidden gems.
Besides the sights and attractions, Perast is an interesting destination for seafood lovers. Local fishermen bring in the fresh catch of the day straight from the Bay of Kotor and the Adriatic Sea. The oysters and mussels are some of the best in the area.
Most Beautiful Places In Europe
Perast is just 7.5 miles (12 km) north of Kotor and less than 50 miles (80 km) from Dubrovnik, Croatia. It is 100 miles (160 km) from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, making Perast a popular day trip. There is no doubt that there are many things to see in this part of Europe.
